John Engstrom

  • School - Ole Miss 2001
  • Position - Multi-Area Director
  • Year - FCA Staff since 2001
  • Hometown - Paragould, AR
  • Location - Southaven, MS

Bio - John was born in Wadsworth, Ohio and was raised across several small towns in Arkansas.  A first team All-State high school player, he would go on to play at Ole Miss.  John  suffered a torn ACL in his freshmen year and was hampered by numerous knee surgeries.  These limited his time on the court, but he still played a role on the team that ended up with the best record in school history 27-8 and made a run to the sweet sixteen in the NCAA tournament his senior year.

John was co-president of his FCA huddle in high school and a part of the FCA Leadership Team at Ole Miss.  After graduating with a BBA degree with an emphasis in marking, he came on staff with FCA in August of 2001.  John now supervises the ministry of FCA across the District 2 and 3 areas and is able to focus ministry in 4 counties (DeSoto, Marshall, Benton, and Tippah Counties).

June 13, 2009 marked the date that John married his beautiful first wife, Amanda.  From Greenville, MS and a graduate of Ole Miss class of 2005, Amanda has taught school in Marks and Water Valley, MS.  Most recently, she taught high school French at Southaven High School and currently works part-time as an office manager for GO Orthodontics, as well as, splitting time as a stay at home mom.

John and Amanda had a daughter, Molly Kate, on December 10, 2012.  Molly was called home to be with the LORD on March 25,  2013.  Molly was a well-tempered, big, healthy baby girl, the cause of her death could not be determined (SIDS).  The LORD saw fit that her time on Earth was complete after 105 days.  Their second born child, Jack, arrived in, 2014 and their third born, Max, in 2015 and Charlie their 3rd son in 2017.

Dan Morgan

  • School - Charleston Southern University 1999
  • Position - Area Director
  • Year - FCA Staff since 2018
  • Hometown - North Augusta, SC
  • Location - Southaven, MS

Bio- Dan grew up in North Augusta, SC, and has been involved in sports his whole life. He played football, basketball, baseball, and track in high school. He has been involved with FCA since high school and also during his time at Charleston Southern. He played college football at Charleston Southern from 1995-1998. He was awarded the Michael Frost Christian Leadership award in 1997 and was the Student body President in 1998- 99. He graduated May 1999 and received his bachelors of science degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Management.

Dan came to know the Lord on October 13,1996 Homecoming weekend at CSU. A radical change happened in his life and Dan began to share with others how they could have true peace in their lives through a relationship with Jesus! Upon graduating, Dan took a job that brought him to Memphis, Tennessee. It was in early spring of 2000 that he felt called to full time ministry in missions. Leaving the comfort of his job, Dan went to seminary, and upon graduation in May 2004 began actively serving as a student pastor. He went on to serve several churches as their student/outreach pastor before returning to the Memphis area as a senior pastor in 2011.

Dan and Kara Cannon were married on May 12, 2001. Kara is from Memphis, TN and went to high school at Harding Academy. She went on to get her BSN from the Loewenberg College of Nursing at the University of Memphis. They have four children. Cannon, Ellie, Hallie Ann, and Asher. The family resides in Southaven, MS.


Cecil W. Sowell

  • School - Auburn 1964
  • Position - Director of Field Development
  • Year - FCA staff since 2013
  • Hometown - Memphis, TN
  • Location - Hernando, MS

Bio -  Cecil began life in his grandfather's house in Love, MS, moving to Memphis from Coldwater, MS at age 6.  He graduated from Treadwell High School and from Auburn University (With High Honor) with a BS degree in Building Science.  Commissioned upon graduation, he served with the U.S. Army Engineers in West Germany for 30 months with assignments ranging from platoon leader to battalion operations officer earning the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service.  He then practiced civil engineering with consultants for more than 40 years with a specialty in highway design and was licensed in five states.

Cecil came to know the LORD while attending West Ox Road Baptist Church in Chantilly, VA.  He joined FCA staff in March, 2013 as Director of Field Development assisting the Director in fund raising and event planning.  He is a member of Hernando, MS Baptist Church, serving as a greeter and an usher.  Cecil is also a Gideon and speaks in area churches on behalf of that organization.  He has a son, Clint, of Collierville, TN and a daughter, Ashley, of Carrolton, TX.
